Messages from the English Department

What an interesting term this has been! The last few months have seen our Sirius College community, and in fact our global community, face a number of new and unprecedented challenges. I would like to take this opportunity to commend all of our students, parents and teachers for all of their efforts this term.

Navigating schooling during this pandemic has not been easy. For many of us, the lack of socialisation and increased screen time has been a real challenge. For me, I have greatly missed seeing my students and hearing about their day. Being in the classroom and seeing you grow and develop your skills is something I look forward to as we move back to on-site learning.

Despite some initial zooming challenges, I feel our remote learning sessions ran very smoothly. I was very impressed to see my Year 8 English students reading and annotating news articles, as well as analysing and reading poetry. 10C and 10D put their acting skills to the test when reading and analysing Shakespeare’s Macbeth and developed some truly marvellous folio pieces investigating Macbeth and his evil deeds.

To my students – I am so very proud of you. In a time of uncertainty, you rose to the challenges that were set by your teachers with a level of maturity beyond your years (and very minimal complaining!) Continue to reach out to your teachers for additional support and to make the most of your English studies.
